Look who’s back to full time worrrk… wich does admittedly make listening to music all day a bit more difficult. Nevertheless we persist.
This week’s mix tape might be a bit wacky but I refuse to airbrush – some you’ll like and some you won’t. I’m pretty sure that’s the point of a mix tape though isn’t it?

- Rainy Friday night alone
Ain’t It A Lonely Feeling – Camille Yarborough
Camille Yarborough is amazing – you might recognise her voice from a little Fatboy Slim ditty. I love the atmosphere of this song and I love how it builds.
- Lunchtime squats
Loneliness – Falle Nioke, Ghost Culture
… as in a HIIT workout that includes squats that you do on your lunch break. Falle Nioke is amazing – combining West African music with electro magic. I can’t stop listening to this.
- Sunday evening crafts
Can’t You See – The Marshall Tucker Band
Sometimes I think I would have thrived in the 70s. It’s that Crosby, Stills & Nash meets The Who meets Fleetwood Mac meets Bruce Springsteen vibe. Just gets me. Love painting my watercolours to this.
- Buzzing out on your overly strong coffee
Thankful For You – Andre Gibson, Universal Togetherness Band
Legend has it that these guys recorded an album but never got signed and only really got famous recently when a video was discovered of them. Mental. I just like nodding my head like a caffeinated weirdo to this.
- Attempting to fix your bike with no bike fixing ability at all
Inspiration Information – Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings
No this is not the original. Not even close. These guys aren’t even really from the 60s or 70s… they’re recreating a sound… and I love it. I also should not be allowed near my own bike. I made some expensive mistakes and am still cycling a bike with no brakes around London.
- Watching Top of the Pops from when you were a kid
The Way (Put Your Hand in my Hand) – Divine Inspiration
‘If you’re a trancer and you’ve lost your way, you’re probably in need of Divine Inspiration.’ Wow. Just wow. I’m fully aware that this is awful but this is a safe space where I am honest about what I’ve been listening to and this is what I’ve been listening to. Sue me. (She’s a bit more in tune on the actual record.)
- Lying on bed post shower wondering what on earth you’ll do for the rest of the day
96 Tears – Big Maybelle
I got stuck down a Spotify hole the other day and discovered this song. An excellent song to do nothing but tap your feet to.
- A bit of a down moment
Try – Madison McFerrin
A moment of feeling a bit down, bit bummed bit lonely… but kind of enjoying it?
