Emily’s Lock Down Mix Tapes: ix

Well we are definitely in a different phase of lock down. Not only are we seeing more friends, having picnics – even barbecues – we’re now doing it in more traditional British weather. Bit more chilly. Bit more rainy.

I come off furlough next week so have set myself up with a little work station in my London lock down home. My London lock down home isn’t my actual London home… I’m residing with a friend who did 3 months totally alone in her flat while she worked at St Thomas’ hospital. The Covid hub of London. We’re doing the rest of lock down together to keep each other sane. That means that this week’s lock down tracks reflect a slightly different pace and style of life…

As ever, full playlist can be found here.

  • Friday morning sunlight
    Golden – Shiv
I don’t have anything too groundbreaking to say about this song but it really captures a vibe. I think now I’ve left my family home there is a certain feeling of solitude – but in a nice way. This sort of gives me that ‘life is good-keep enjoying it-anything is possible’ vibe. Everything is magic and the weekend is coming.
  • Getting late on the common
Come With the Ragga – Maxwell Owin, Phoebs
Such a vibe when you’ve been hanging out with your beautiful friends all evening. Everyone’s cold and you know it needs to get called at some point – but not yet.
  • Coffee, book and an existential moment
Into the Ether – Leif Vollebekk
I’ve mentioned Leif before and his similarity to Jeff Buckley. If you haven’t heard Leif before I’m about to change your life. He’s just released a song but this is one of his classics. It is sheer beauty – sheer genius. I really, really hope this brings you the calm it brings me. I was due to see him with my sister in April. It’s been rescheduled and I cannot wait.
  • A rainy walk to the supermarket
    Risk – FKJ, Bas, Galimatias
This is a great soundtrack to absorb the streets of London to. You can be a mellow voyeur with this track.
  • Kombucha making
My Sweet Lord – George Harrison
Kombucha actually doesn’t take much effort to make at all. You basically make tea and then it’s a lot of ladelling into containers. Everyone knows this song but I feel like we don’t pay attention to it.
  • Post workout stretching
Road – Lane 8, Arctic Lake
This does have a bit of that Euro vibe that I think a lot of people associate with cheese. However I find that when I’m exercising I’m much more inclined towards cheesy music. This is a great chilled track to put on after a workout – feeling all zen and worthy because you got out there and worked out. Stretching always seems like a chore but if you can try to view it as an indulgence it really helps a lot.
